Spiced fresh herb and chickpea patties, fried in oil for a crispy outside and fluffy inside. Make ahead and place the formed falafels in the freezer before cooking.

Ingredients

Servings: 4
Makes: 20

300 g tinned chickpeas, drained, rinsed
30 g fresh parsley, destalked, finely chopped
10 g coriander, destalked, finely chopped
10 g dill, destalked, finely chopped
150 g onion, peeled, coarsely chopped
3  garlic cloves, peeled, destemmed, crushed
  salt, to taste
  pepper, to taste
1 Tbsp ground cumin
1 Tbsp ground coriander
2 Tbsp sesame seeds
1 tsp baking powder
  vegetable oil, as needed


Instructions

STEP 1/3

Line the baking tray with parchment paper
Attach the Food Mincer attachment and fit the Fine Screen 
Place a large mixing bowl underneath the attachment
Start the machine on speed 4
Add chickpeas, herbs, onion and garlic into the Food Mincer attachment
Using the pusher, gently push the food down the feed tube
Remove the attachment from the machine

STEP 2/3

Add seasoning, spices, sesame seeds and baking powder into the large mixing bowl
Mix to combine
Roll the mixture into 20 x 5 cm balls
Place the balls on the prepared baking tray
Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes

STEP 3/3

Retrieve the chilled falafels from the fridge
Add vegetable oil into the frying pan
Heat over a medium-high heat until hot
Carefully fry the falafels in batches – around 4 at a time
Fry for 3-5 minutes until brown and crispy
Remove the falafels with a slotted spoon
Drain and place on a kitchen towel to remove excess oil
